Friendly Small Fair

2011 President's Message

On behalf of the Burford Agricultural Society Board of Directors, welcome to our 151st fair. The format of the 2011 Fair will be similar to previous years:

  • Friday Evening
    • Loonie/Toonie Night
    • Hosting the Battle of the Bands Competition.
  • Saturday (afternoon & evening), Sunday and Thanksgiving Monday (full days)
    • Exhibits, Competitions and Activities
  • Grandstand and Feature Shows on each day of the Fair.

For more detailed information, please visit our website at www.burfordfair.ca. Advertised schedules will be posted in the Burford Times, announced on CKPC radio, and posted as updates on our website.

Our theme in 2011 is “Having Fun the Western Way”.  Events, activities and competitions will reflect the heritage of the “western” influence in our community.  As always, our aim is to promote awareness and value of local agriculture.  The “pioneer” children above are showing us some local home-grown products.

Popular returning events to the 2011 Fair include:

  • The Talent Show
  • Antique Farm Equipment Displays– the newly formed Antique Tractor Club is planning an expanded format for this event.
  • Heavy Horse Pulls  – this event gathers more spectators every year and complements our theme and heritage very well.  We look forward to welcoming our internationally-popular “pullers” again.

Annual crowd favourites including Demolition Derbies, Mini Tractor Pulls and Lawnmower Races will also be held throughout the three full days.

Special events we are presenting this year include:

    - Chuckwagon and chariot races.
    - Canadian Cowgirls precision drill team

Times and locations of the above events are tentative.  Watch for advertisements and visit our website for more information.

On behalf of the Board and the Burford Agricultural Society, our thanks is extended to all individuals, businesses and organizations who have supported recent improvements at the Fairgrounds and general operations throughout the year.  Your contributions from your own busy schedules allow the Fair to continue to be a success.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to the 151st Burford Fair on Thanksgiving weekend 2011.
